Fans from afar, day out for the boys from Sunderland

Vale and Crossgates Primrose supporters may have seen and heard some strangers with English accents at the game on Saturday. Three mates from Sunderland who are lifelong SAFC supporters with season tickets, but like a lot of football fans have a second team which they follow.

For some years we have been following the fortunes of the Vale and the club became a regular talking point on match days. It’s fair to say things hadn’t gone well lately but we promised ourselves that one day we would travel, see a game and show some support.

We made the two and a half hour journey and the non drivers had a few pre match drinks in the Traquair Arms Hotel before heading to the ground for the 2.30pm kick off.
The first half was completed with a score line of 0-0 with both team having a couple of missed chances. Vale lost an early goal at the start of the second followed by another midway through to trail 2-0, but to their credit they did not give up. The teams had to suffer a horrendous downpour before the Vale pulled a goal back. However, time was against them as they chased an equaliser. Oh, for Fergie Time!
A quick pint afterwards in the Union Club, a safe journey home in the dark and a great day out.

All clubs have good and bad times. Lately, the Stadium of Light has often sang Things Can Only Get Better by D:Ream, have a listen. Vale are getting better

Keep Faith
Cheers all
