Health & Safety

Vale of Leithen Football Club is a member of the East of Scotland Football League. We are committed to safeguarding the health and safety of all club personnel. This document describes the club’s Health and Safety Policy including First Aid.

General Policy
It is the policy of Vale of Leithen Football Club to take all reasonable and practicable steps to safeguard the Health and Safety and welfare of all volunteers and to protect all other persons against hazards to Health or Safety arising out of the club’s activities. The club has a separate First Aid Plan.

The co-operation of every member of the club is necessary in promoting this policy and in ensuring that the standard of health and safety which is achieved is always at least equal and preferably above the standards set by the Health and Safety at Work Act and the regulations made under it.

It is the policy of Vale of Leithen Football Club that all of our internal workplaces, including the covered enclosure, are smoke-free, and all club officials and players have a right to work in a smoke-free environment. The club has a separate Smoking Policy.

First Aid Structure
The executive responsibility for implementing this policy rests with the club’s Committee, which delegates the responsibility to the clubs certified First Aid team. These are personnel within the club that have had formal Sports Injury training.

In addition, it is the statutory duty of every club member at all times to take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and all others who may be affected by their actions.

Ground Access

Vehicular and spectator access to Victoria Park is via Hall Street. There are two gates which allow spectator access, these are located at the main entrance and at the SE corner of the ground. These spectator entrances are open and manned by staff on match days to offer easy and immediate access and egress.

Advice
Advice on matters of health and safety is given to the club by the Health and Safety Executive and available from ‘The Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds’. Additional advice if necessary may also be received or requested from the Scottish Ambulance Service.

Accident Book
An Accident Book is maintained in the clubhouse. With the exception of injuries sustained on the field of play, all accidents or injuries sustained whilst on club business must be recorded in the Accident Book.

Policy Review
Vale of Leithen Football Club will keep this policy under review, with additions or amendments made where deemed appropriate by the club, or on the advice of other relevant bodies.
