Vale of Leithen 0 BSC Glasgow 4

The playing surface was heavy from the overnight rain and a ten minutes heavy shower prior to kick off only added to the difficult playing surface.

BSC were intent on maintaining their position at the top of the league and virtually finished the game in the first three minutes when they took a two nil lead.

After only two minutes slack defending by the  Vale defence resulted in Redpath firing a well place shot high passed Gilpin.

After regaining control of the ball from the kick off BSC marched up the park and some nice footwork from Jack Smith resulted in him slotting the ball pass Gilpin for the second in the 3rd minute.

Vale were now under pressure and although weathering the storm, BSC were showing why they are top of the league.

BSC pressure paid of again in the 20th minute when Grehen  found himself alone in the corner of the box and hit an excellent well placed shot into the top of Gilpin’s goal.

The first half finished with BSC still in the ascendancy.

HT 0-3

Vale made some position changes at half time, with Ali Smith being put up front.

However, BSC continued to be dominant and increased their lead in the 55 minutes, when after some slack defending Graham hit a shot from outside the box which evaded everyone and ended up in the back of the net.

Vale then suffered a period of sustained pressure where they were lucky not to concede another goal.

Vale were still trying to play football, but BSC were superior throughout and the experience in their team was evident for everyone to see.

BSC will be thereabout at the end of the season if they continue with this form.

FT 0-4

Vale of Leithen 2 Civil Service Strollers 0

Vale started the game without a recognised centre forward and had Sean Stewart leading the line.

Strollers started the game with the strong wind at their backs and were intent on playing long balls initially.

However, as the game progressed it was Vale who were on the ascendancy, with the front line creating problems in the Strollers defence with their quick movements and slick play.

Their good play was rewarded in the 18 minute when Stewart was allowed one on one with the goalkeeper and slotted the ball past him.

Vale were then denied a good penalty shout when Patterson appeared to be brought down.

Vale were award a penalty in the 38 minute when Stewart was taken down in the area.

Kerr Allan’s spot kick was saved by the goalkeeper, however he followed up and scored with the rebound.

Vale had a few chances to put the game to bed, but unfortunately missed them

HT 2-0

Strollers started the second half more positive and although having a fair degree of pressure, the Vale goal was rarely threatened.

Strollers problems were increased in the 55 minute when their centre back Jack Verth was dismissed for elbowing Sean Stewart.

The rest of the game was played out with the Strollers pressing and the Vale hitting on the break.

Despite a few chances at both ends there was no further scoring.

FT 2-0

The sponsor Man of the Match was awarded to Sean Stewart

Match Preview-Civil Service Strollers: Nearly full strength Vale ready for tough challenge

Chris Anderson is fully aware of the challenge his Vale side face today.
Civil Service Strollers are the visitors to Victoria Park and a decent start to the season has them sitting just outside the top half of the table.
However, he is pleased that he is pretty much a full squad to choose from after a difficult spell on the injury front.
He said: “Today we welcome Civil Service Strollers to Victoria park and I’d like to extend a warm welcome to Alec Cunningham and his team who have had a good start to the season. They will prove to be a tough challenge for us today.
“With the exception of Ross Brady who has to work work and long term absentee James Elliot we have a full squad to choose from. Competition for places will now be a challenge for the players and once their in it will be up to them to stay there.”
Anderson also reflected on the unfortunate events of last weekend which led to the postponement of the cup tie against Upper Annandale, much to the annoyance of both teams.
Vale officials felt that the pitch was in a playable condition but the referee disagreed and said it was too soft in places. This frustrated everyone involved who were desperate to play the fixture, especially since the away side had traveled a long distance from Moffat.
He added: “I was amazed last week’s game didn’t go ahead. I was not only disappointed for our players who were desperate to put in another good performance, but I felt sorry for the away team who had traveled a distance at some expense.”
